Kind Companions

Who we are

Two friends, Angie Poole and Hilary Simmons – who together have years of experience in support services – formed Kind Companions to address the local need for quality companionship.

Hilary Simmons

After a long and varied career with Department for Work and Pensions, visiting and meeting people of all social backgrounds, I have first-hand experience of how loneliness and social-isolation can impact upon people.

Personal experience of caring for elderly relatives has made me aware that I could have benefited from a cost-effective, easy to use service such as Kind Companions.

I am married with a grown-up son. My husband is a successful IT consultant.

In my spare time I enjoy, tennis, aquafit, anything food related, theatre and cinema, walking, gardening, dancing and watching football. Family and friends are very important to me.

Angie Poole

After a long career in local support services with the Alzheimer's Society, One Community carer's centre, Citizen's Advice Bureau and Solent MIND, I wanted to work with people to reduce social isolation and enhance their quality of life.

This, combined with bringing up a family, brought me into contact with people from all walks of life and social backgrounds.

My husband is a chartered accountant, a keen golfer and sportsman. We have two grown-up children, and I try and keep pace with my elderly mother.

I trained as a ballet dancer, but now play tennis and try the occasional yoga class. I enjoy the theatre, cinema, reading, walking, cooking, gardening and sports.
